The Key of Hekate necklace features a triple moon sitting upon a small skeleton key. The skeleton key is symbolic to Hecate, the "Guardian of the Crossroads" and "Keeper of Keys". The keys she held were for opening Hades, and the Orphic Hymn to Hecate names her “keyholding mistress of the whole world” for her role in opening the gates to the underworld. Hecate and keys are both symbolic of boundaries, statues of Hecate were often left at doorways and entrances to shrines and temples (places keys are often needed to open) and at the crossroads (a place some see as a boundary between our world and the Underworld). Keys themselves are also often associated with gateways and portals, doorways to the unknown, knowledge, mysteries, powers, initiations, new ways and forbidden things. The triple moon which is representative of the cycles of the moon - Waxing, Full, Waning - is often associated with the mythology of Persephone, Demeter and Hekate.

The pendant is 5cm long and is hung upon a 45cm sterling silver wheat chain.

This necklace has been oxidised to bring out the textured surfaces. Sterling silver may further oxidise over time due to the skins natural oils.

This is a made to order piece, please allow up to 4-6 weeks for it to be made and shipped out to you.
